"Peridot (pronounced pair-a-doe), or precious olivine, is a volcanic gemstone that was once treasured by native Hawaiians as the tears of the Goddess-of-Fire, Pele. The transparent green stone is a variety of the mineral olivine, a silicate found in many igneous rocks and a major constituent of the Earth's upper mantle. The crystal system is orthorhombic with a hardness slightly less than quartz. Small crystallites of peridot are often found in the basalt rocks created by volcanoes and have been found in iron-nickel meteorites called pallasites. Some specimens of extraterrestrial peridot have even been faceted and set into jewelry."

"A superb glassy gem quality transparent fluorite crystal measuring 1.7 x 1.6 x 1.6 cm is attractively studded on the side of a 4.6 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm matrix. A tiny chip is present on one crystal edge, seen only by my eyes with magnification. For one of these, this is in excellent condition. The quality is exceptionally high for a Fort Wayne fluorite miniature. Collected in the early 1970's."

Fluorite - Kavalerovo Mining District, Dal'negorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Far-Eastern Region, Russia

"Really top specimens from this mining district have never been common on the mineral market. The miniature shown here is superb. An extremely sharp pale violet to greenish partly transparent octahedral fluorite crystal measuring 3.1 cm across, from point to point, is perched aesthetically upon matrix. Complete on the back side; damage-free. The quality is outstanding. Size: 5.5 x 5.1 x 2.8 cm."

Fluorite - Elmwood mine, Carthage, Smith Co., Tennessee, USA

Very fine and unusual etched fluorite, classic from this locality. On the top side are "normal" deep purple cubic fluorite crystals. The "bottom" consists of naturally etched crystallized fluorite. The crystals are lustrous and partly gemmy. Interesting and attractive piece! Size: 9.6 x 6.0 x 3.5 cm
