"Student loans are one of the biggest problems facing our country at the moment. Thousands of students attend university and even if they drop out, students still end up with mountains of debt. This debt can follow them throughout their life.

Today’s infographic says 85% of today’s college graduates will move back in with their parents after school. I know my parents would love seeing my face more around the house, although they would probably prefer I get a job after college. If only higher education didn’t cost as much.

Prices have been rising for colleges all over the country while performance has declined. One in three students will not learn any critical reasoning or thinking skills during their first two years of university. This statistic has me baffled. I learned quite a lot my first two years at college. I suppose some students don’t put forth the effort to learn." [Higher Education Bubble]

"Enlightened Citizenship : How Civic Knowledge Trumps a College Degree in Promoting Active Civic Engagement is the fifth report to the nation issued by ISI's National Civic Literacy Board. While each past study has had a different point of emphasis, all share a common thread of examining the relationships that exist between higher education, civic knowledge, and citizenship.

Unfortunately, the results of ISI's past civic literacy research does not inspire confidence that our institutions of higher learning are living up to their educative and civic responsibilities, responsibilities that almost all American colleges recognize as critical to their overall public missions.

    American Civic Engagement Survey

America’s drive for independence was led by an amazing and rare group of men who valued both thought and action, and were willing to pledge their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to the cause of liberty. Just how willing are you to do your civic duty? Are you a Benedict Arnold, a Founding Father, or something in-between?

    American Civic Knowledge Survey

Both the ancient Greeks and Romans valued wise and public-spirited citizens. Let’s see just how wise you really are? Are you a Barbarian, Philosopher King, or something in-between?

Full Civic Literacy Exam (from our 2008 survey)

Are you more knowledgeable than the average citizen? The average score for all 2,508 Americans taking the following test was 49%; college educators scored 55%. Can you do better? Questions were drawn from past ISI surveys, as well as other nationally recognized exams."

"The national debate over our public education system has left us with lots of new policies and more standardized testing, but many parents and students are still unsatisfied.

According to CourseHero, the emergence and availability of technology in our homes is directly linked to the increase of homeschooling. Parents and kids have access to online tools including free curriculum and resources from major colleges and universities. Forget the textbooks from the '80s: Students are working with realtime information.

Additionally, many parents are shocked to learn that homeschooled students perform "15-30 points better on standardized tests than their non-homeschooled peers", says CourseHero. They are also more likely to attend and graduate college, finishing with a better GPA than their traditionally schooled friends."

"McGuffey Readers were a series of graded primers that were widely used as textbooks in American schools from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century, and are still used today in some private schools and in homeschooling.

It is estimated that at least 120 million copies of McGuffey's Readers were sold between 1836 and 1960, placing its sales in a category with the Bible and Webster's Dictionary. Since 1961 they have continued to sell at a rate of some 30,000 copies a year. No other textbook bearing a single person's name has come close to that mark."

"It’s play time! The new enhanced version of My American Farm, the Foundation’s online interactive education program, was launched in January 2011 at the American Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting. One of the top goals with this new version was to create more games and activities for kids to learn from and enjoy."

A school teacher once a month has a “sticker day.”
She gives each child a sticker and asks them to write a story about it.
On this day she gave a little boy a sticker with a horse on it.
    His story is below.
As you can imagine he misspelled the word which changed the context of the story completely!

If you have kids or are a teacher, this will bring back memories, enjoy.
