A shocking video captures the moment a bus plunged off a cliff on the 'world's most dangerous road'

The jaw-dropping footage shows the driver creeping past the cliff's edge on a treacherous stretch of the Bolivian pass while a crowd tries to help guide his way.

One man who steps forward and gestures to the driver to help him steer further away from the edge does so in vain as it eventually tips forward with the weight of it carrying it over the side.

"The Valle de las Animas, or Valley of the Souls is a densely packed forest of rock formations, each stabbing toward the sky in great clusters. Formed out of mudrock and erosion over hundreds of years, the visually-stunning valley has drawn in visitors for thousands of years.

When the first people visited the valley, they believed the spires resembled petrified souls, and gave the area its name. Since that time, a steady stream of hikers have visited the valley to marvel at the thousands of rugged peaks, which form deep gorges and many side passages and sub-valleys. Adding to the mystique and beauty of the site is the 15,000-foot Illimani, Bolivia's highest mountain that towers above the valley in the background."

"The star-shaped patterns pictured above are radial soybean fields that are part of a planned settlement east of Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia. The stars radiate from small towns (shown at right) three miles apart and are separated from neighboring stars by a small stretch of the dry tropical forest that used to cover the area. The image above was taken Aug. 11, 2001 by NASA's Terra satellite.

The area has been rapidly deforested to accommodate people that have been resettled from the Altiplano, the high planes of the Andes. Each small community has a school, a church, a bar and a soccer field."
