Grand New View of the Canyon

"It is up to 18 miles (29 kilometers) wide and one mile (1.6 km) deep, and stretches 277 river miles (446 km). It is one of the greatest natural wonders of North America and perhaps the entire world. And thanks to a joint American and Japanese science team, we now have a new perspective on the Grand Canyon and many other topographic features of the planet."

Giant 11foot rhubarb leaf in Dorset

A giant rhubarb leaf grown in Abbotsbury, Dorset could be a record breaker after its diameter stretched to a whopping 3.4m (11ft) is big enough for curator Steve Griffiths to hide under.

Some speculate that the unusually wet summer in the UK helped the plant to grow larger than it usually would.

Colorful Planet Mars - Trees on Mars !

Trees on Mars !!! This image looks remarkably like groves of trees growing among Martian dunes. But, the trees are an optical illusion. They are actually dark streaks of sediment on the downwind side of the dunes. They were created by escaping gas from the evaporating carbon dioxide ice below. The bottom of the ice melts into vapor and moves toward holes in the ice, carrying dark sediment along with it that is then deposited when the gas escapes. This image was taken by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter in Aprl 2008. Image: NASA/JPL/University of Arizona
