"The Goat Tower at the Fairview Wine and Cheese Farm in the Paarl area of South Africa, just a short journey from Cape Town has become a symbol of the farm even if it is better known for its wine than its goat’s cheese!

Since the construction of the tower in the 1980s several farmers around the world have seen this wonderful caprine condominium and have followed suit. It may not fit the exact criteria for free range goat herding but the goats themselves look pretty happy with their accommodation."

"The parched deserts of Southern California need water to transform their barren soil into fertile farmlands and tourist Meccas such as those existing elsewhere in the state. So far the problem has remained unsolved. But Sidney Cornell, a Los Angeles construction engineer, thinks he has a solution. He wants to construct a series of geyser-like power plants one mile apart to shoot water from the mouth of one into the funnel of the next, as depicted here by MI artist Frank Tinsley. The water would arc over hilly sections, have a flat trajectory over plains. Its velocity would approach 400 mph. These stations— 400 in all—would cost about $300,000 each."

Jacobo Borges is a Venezuelan artist, born in 1931 in Caracas, who is considered to be a 'Witness of His Time’, because in his painting he declares and assumes an indisputable testimonial condition.
    ArsLatino

“These are pictures of many landscapes, fragments and feelings that I paint, erase, and go back to painting," says Borges. “I dig them out from memory where the process of what was erased is preserved. I look for simultaneity of landscapes, crossing the timeline and standing at the very same spot, but in different moments between what I lived and what I dreamt.”

"Lytro lets you take pictures like never before. Unlike a conventional camera that captures a single plane of light, the Lytro camera captures the entire light field, which is all the light traveling in every direction in every point in space.

Since you'll capture the color, intensity, and direction of all the light, you can experience the first major light field capability - focusing after the fact. Focus and re-focus, anywhere in the picture. You can refocus your pictures at anytime, after the fact.

And focusing after the fact, means no auto-focus motor. No auto-focus motor means no shutter delay. So, capture the moment you meant to capture not the one a shutter-delayed camera captured for you."

"We have built an imaging solution that allows us to visualize propagation of light. The effective exposure time of each frame is two trillionth of a second and the resultant visualization depicts the movement of light at roughly half a trillion frames per second. Direct recording of reflected or scattered light at such a frame rate with sufficient brightness is nearly impossible. We use an indirect 'stroboscopic' method that records millions of repeated measurements by careful scanning in time and viewpoints. Then we rearrange the data to create a 'movie' of a nano-second long event."   MIT Media Lab’s Camera Culture Group .

At the Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, Qatar this week, Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang put on his largest "explosion event" of the last three years, utilizing microchip-controlled explosives to form incredible designs and patterns. The video we've embedded of the event is an impressive testament to how a volatile black powder explosion can be controlled and shaped by computer.

Each set of explosions was calculated to paint a different picture. One series of explosions created black smoke clouds that looked like "drops of ink splattered across the sky."
