Colorado officially named rhodochrosite as its state mineral in 2002 based on a proposal by a local high school (Platte Canyon High School in Bailey, Colorado). The reason for this lies in the fact that while the mineral is found worldwide, large red crystals are found only in a few places on earth, and some of the best specimens have been found in the Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado.

"Irina and Silviu Szekely were born in Romania and now live in the UK. They describe their work as: “Experimental juxtapositions of pseudo-spaces and altered realities.” Their style isn’t typical to most collage work, which makes it all that better. In fact, you can hardly tell some are collage pieces at all. They all are though, as they mainly use magazine and books, and of course those much needed pair of scissors, to create each image. See more at their site."

"Anyone who has ever believed in the existence of a plump, red jumper attired man with a white beard delivering gifts to your home has had to think, how will he know where I am and where I live?

Well, some neighborhoods like Dyker Heights, Brooklyn make sure that there are plenty of lights to help the old guy make his way there.

While Dyker Heights puts out a grand display, they are not alone. Melbourne, Australia also sets the bar high when it comes to wrapping their homes in lights.

Here's a look at some of the more spectacular extremely lit holiday homes and cities across the world."

After registering on DeviantArt, I began the slow improvement in the middle of which you find me today. I need to keep getting better, I think my photos still need lots of improvement." WestCoastScapes

"My goal these days is to make it seem as if a real person (or whatever) is lurking there behind the grate. To this end I use digital sampling and all the techniques of illusionistic painting I’ve learned over the years. When people encounter my stuff I’m hoping they’ll respond to the scenario, to what’s going on—I want their initial response to be shock and WHAT THE %$#@? rather than first wondering who the artist is"....Dan Witz
