"American discontent with government is at a more than 10-year high, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted last month. Twenty-six percent of Americans say they’re angry at the federal government, up from 14 percent in March and 12 percent in 1997.
What’s eating at them? Gas and food prices, the budget deficit and the jobs crisis just to name a few.
With unemployment hovering at 9 percent and the first decline in incomes in almost two years it’s no wonder Americans are expressing dissatisfaction with their leaders. Almost 50 percent of Americans disapprove of President Barack Obama compared to the nearly 60 percent who disapprove of Republicans, according to Pew.
Some are taking their discontent to the streets. Protestors have been stationed in Zuccotti Park in New York City’s financial district since Sept. 17 as part of the Occupy Wall Street movement. The group aims to counter corporate power, income inequality and other concerns"
"Lalibela in Ethiopia is the home of eleven churches, hewn from the rock. The most famous is that of Saint George, which was built in the thirteenth century. As demonstrable a point as you can get that Africa was not the ‘dark continent’ many suppose until the arrival of Europeans, it shows that technology there was virtually on a par with that of the western world. The site is a UNESCO world heritage center and has often been referred to as the eighth wonder of the world."
“All of my life, making art has been my passion. As I have experienced life, the forms that my work has taken have evolved and deepened and my love for creating has endured. I want my art to inspire the viewer to look closely at what stands before them. It is not the fleeting moment that I try to capture, but the universal feeling caught in that fleeting moment. I want the viewer to complete the story, to reflect and feel touched.
If this connection could be for eternity, it would be my masterpiece.”
